Hydraulic or pneumatically engaged clutches and brakes can provide a high torque solution while maintaining a controlled engagement capability.  Pressure operated units can be provided that have dry friction face engagement or have engagement surfaces within an oil bath for long life as well as to provide isolation from contaminants.
