A major Colorado ski resort required reliable overrunning clutches for use on their chair lifts. The resort has more than 20 ski lifts with a combined lift capacity of more than 30,000 riders per hour. The lifts feature a wide range of vertical rises up to 1,700 ft. (518 m) and ride times of up to 11 minutes.
Formsprag Clutch was selected to provide a clutch solution for use on the U.S. Army towed howitzer artillery piece. Operated by a 5-man crew, the gun utilizes a digital fire control system that provides navigation, pointing and self-location. The gun can
accurately fire a 155mm GPS-guided munition at a range of up to 25 miles (40 km).
A large, Midwestern theme park needed a replacement overrunning clutch for use on one of their most popular inverted roller coasters. The ride begins with a lift hill that ascends 137 ft. (42 m). Trains are pulled up by a 9,000 lb. chain lift before moving through various climbs, dives and corkscrews while reaching a maximum speed of 57 mph (92 km/h).
A manufacturer of automotive speaker grills needed a longer lasting replacement clutch solution for use on the feed drives of their punch presses that operate at 1,400 strokes/min. The machine’s original clutches were wearing out prematurely causing frequent periods of production downtime.
A new clutch solution was needed for use on the lifeboat davits aboard U.S. navy destroyers. The clutches are used on the davit winch drives to provide an optional manual drive to the normal powered drive system which smoothly raises and lowers the lifeboats.
